Parliament Keen To See New Funding Model For The SABC
In his address to the National Association of Broadcasters` Annual General Meeting, Mr. Nkenke Kekana expressed the view that the funding model of the SABC, relying on 80% of its revenue to come from advertising, was not ideal.
Mr. Kekana expressed the view that a public finding model would better suit the SABC in meeting its public mandate but that Parliament was not hasty in its move for change. He stated that: "... Parliament was working towards a public funding model for the SABC but the mixed funding model will be with us for many years to come."
Mr. Kekana also reported that the funding of the SABC regional television language services, as required by the Broadcasting Amendment Act, has not been finalised and Parliament is seeking clarity on the matter.
