ICASA`s Plans For New Broadcasting Landscape

In an address to the National Association of Broadcasters, Mr Aynon Doyle, Senior Manager - Policy Research and Development of the ICASA Broadcasting Division, unveiled ICASA`s proposed plans for 2003.
According to Mr. Doyle ICASA plans to have public enquiries into regional TV which will include metropolitan TV and community TV. He also announced that ICASA would conduct a public enquiry into subscription broadcasting and low power sound broadcasting. ICASA also intends reviewing its policy of community radio, signal distribution tariffs and its licence fees policy.
ICASA also provided clarity on some of the enquiries that have taken place recently. Mr. Doyle reported that the Ownership and Control and Commercial Radio review would be completed by the end of April and that a final document could be expected some time in May. He also reported that the Sports Rights position paper would be published in June 2003 once the Minister had been consulted.
