ICASA POSITION PAPER AND REGULATIONS ON SPORTS BROADCASTING RIGHTS

On 25 July 2003 ICASA released its position paper and regulations on Sports Broadcasting Rights. The position paper and regulations are the result of a Parliamentary directive through section 30(7) of the Broadcasting Act, 1999. ICASA arrived at the position paper and regulations after a public process and consultations with the Minister of Communication and Minister of Sport and Recreation.

The regulations formally lists sporting events that have been identified as national sporting events which, can not be acquired exclusively for broadcasting by subscription television broadcasting licensees and must be broadcast live or delayed live by free-to-air television broadcasting licensees.
