The Department of Communications (DoC) will be hosting a National Summit on Language and Content in Gauteng on 25 and 26 November 2003. The purpose of the summit is to evaluate whether the broadcasting system in its current form addresses the needs of South Africans and also to consider how the South African broadcasting system can best serve societal needs.

The DoC regards this gathering as a high powered event in the broadcasting sector which will bring together members of the Provincial Legislature, Political Parties, Civic and Non-Governmental Organisations, Women, Youth Structures, Trade Unions, Broadcasters, Business Community, Producers, Performers and Writers.

Stakeholders and national structures have been asked to prepare their final positions or recommendations for discussion during the Summit. The Summit will take place at Kopanong Conference centre, Benoni, Gauteng Province and will start at 08h30 on 25 November 2003.
