NAB LAUNCHES SKILLS DEVELOPMENT FORUM

Following numerous requests from the industry for a forum to co-ordinate the efforts of the broadcasting industry with regards to skills development and dealing with the MAPPP SETA, the Executive Committee of the NAB has approved the establishment of a Skills Development Forum under the auspices of the NAB to facilitate discussion and to co-ordinate efforts within the broadcasting industry.


The first meeting of the Forum took place on Thursday, 04 March 2004 elected Allan Khan (East Coast Radio) as chairperson and Toni Engelbrecht (SABC) as deputy chairperson. The identified aims and objectives of the Skills Development Forum is as follows:

  • Assisting in the submission of the Skills Levy, Quarterly reports, claiming back the Grants and using Discretionary funds
  • Info on how learnerhips can be facilitated and be drawn up.
  • Complying with the Skills Development Act requirements
  • Educating members of the Forum on SETA and SAQA issues
  • Participating in the Chamber for the Broadcast Industry
  • Input regarding the development of scarce skills
  • Communicating with the SETA
  • Establishing of Learnership agreements
  • Developing or giving input on Standards
