NEW DoC PROGRAMME PRODUCTION STRATEGY FOR COMMUNITY RADIO

The DoC hosted a National Workshop on its programme production strategy for Community Radio in Midrand on 26 & 27 August 2003. The workshop is part of an consultative process to align the programme with the needs of the Community Radio industry and the communities it serves. At the workshop the DoC announced the appointment of Sgubu Concepts as the National facilitator of the project. This is a change in strategy for the DoC who, in the past, utilised the services of more than one facilitator. The DoC views this change as a step towards better co-ordination and facilitation of the project and would better serve the needs of the industry.

The workshop was aimed at identifying topics of importance to various communities that also form part of the National agenda. Topics identified in the workshop include, Women, Children, HIV/AIDS, Disability and Crime. The DoC will, with the assistance of the facilitator, assist community radio services in the production of programming that covers these topics.
