History:
Established in 1980 as Channel 702. A multi-racial youth market was initially targeted through crossover pop music- "The Rainbow of Sound", as it became known. In 1986, the focus shifted to regional strength. As a result, the Witwatersrand was dubbed "702-land", a name that had prevailed over all change to date. In 1988, 702 made its historic move into the adult market, reaching to upper income listeners within the age profile 25 to 49. This was done with a brand new format, offering talk, in-depth news, advice, opinions, views and information. Channel 702 turned into 702 Music Radio and then 702 Talk Radio.
