17 May is World Telecommunications Day (WTD)

17 May 2013

History of WTD
World Telecommunication Day commemorates the founding of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in 1865. The first WTD was celebrated in 1969. Since then the 17th of May has been observed as WTD every year. The WTD has been identified by the Tunis phase of the World Summit on the Information Society as "World Information Society Day", since 2006.  This year the theme for WTD is "ICTs and improving road safety".

The NAB supports the efforts of all ICT Stakeholders in the provision of telecommunications services for all South Africans.
