Haseena Cassim welcomed as inaugural Chairperson of NAB Women's Forum
The NAB is delighted to announce that Y Managing Director (MD), Haseena Cassim, will lead the NAB Women’s Forum as its first-ever chairperson. The NAB Women’s Forum was launched on 20 August 2024 to formalise the ongoing efforts of the NAB women in policy, regulation, compliance and corporate affairs, who have committed themselves to mentoring, training and supporting each other, and the next generation of women in the sector.
Cassim is Y’s first female MD and has been in the position since 2017. She holds an LLB degree and has previously worked at CNBC Africa as a Personal Assistant to the Vice-Chairperson and Legal Executive, then later as an HR Compliance and Legal Executive. Her career at Y began in 2012, as a Compliance and Regulatory Manager, managing various departments in her 12-year tenure at the station. Cassim is a member of the NAB’s Commercial Radio Committee and has served on its Executive Committee over a number of years.
NAB Executive Director, Nadia Bulbulia, welcomed and congratulated Cassim on her appointment to the role. “As a women-led organisation, the NAB supports and celebrates female leadership in its committees and structures, as well as the broadcasting industry at large. We are excited by what the NAB Women’s Forum will bring with Haseena at the helm,” she said.
The launch of the NAB Women’s Forum comes as the organisation marks 10 years of hosting its annual Women’s Roundtable events, and in the year that South Africa celebrates 30 years of democracy. The NAB Roundtables have provided a platform for NAB women to engage on the challenges, developments and successes of women in the broadcasting sector.
The NAB Women’s Forum will endeavour to meet at least three times per year as a support system, aimed at strengthening capacity and sector opportunities. It will also identify a women and girls’ outreach project in need of support on an annual basis, in keeping with the NAB’s current practice.
