ICASA addresses parliament on sports broadcasting
The portfolio committee’s meeting with ICASA follows meetings with television broadcasters during which the committee expressed frustration at the slow progress on this matter.
During its presentation ICASA noted that in terms of the Broadcasting Act, it must hold hearings and solicit public input before it can promulgate regulations on sports broadcasting.
In the meantime, the portfolio committee has asked broadcasters to meet and devise proposals on this matter before the end of July 2001.
