ICASA announces broadcasting projects for 2002

18 April 2002
Langa said that the much anticipated ownership and radio sector review would be primarily looking at how to achieve greater diversity in the sector.

Among the other broadcasting projects which Langa mentioned were the restructuring of the SABC, the inquiry into sports of national interest and the continuing licensing of four-year community radio.

Langa also alluded to the amendment of the Broadcasting Act stating that once the amendments to the Act were passed, the regulator would turn its attention to the licensing of satellite and pay TV.

In closing Langa stated that ICASA would be continuing to interact with the industry and would be inviting industry representatives to regular discussions on pertinent topics such as the impact of September 11 on the industry, HIV Aids and gender issues in the sector.
