Mandla Langa to speak at NAB Annual General Meeting
In January, the portfolio committee on trade and industry approved needletime legislation which will see an increase in the levies payable by broadcasters for music use. Then, in early February, the portfolio committee on communications announced that it would be considering the Media Development and Diversity Agency legislation in this session. The agency will support community media and will seek funding from commercial media. Most recently, on 15 February, ICASA announced its new local content regulations for broadcasters which will come into effect in August 2003 (see other story in this newsletter).
Other issues facing the broadcasting industry in 2002 are ICASA’s much anticipated inquiry on ownership regulations and a review of the commercial radio sector.
Langa will be speaking at 2:00pm at Primedia Place, 5 Gwen Lane, Sandton. All industry representatives are welcome.
