Minister`s Budget Speech Points to Universal Access and Content Development

The Minister also stated that a South African language and Content Summit is planned for September 2003. the summit will draw together policy makers, regulators, operators, broadcast content producers and civil society to look into the state of South African broadcasting. The Minister stated that the Summit - "will enable delegates to assess the state of the South African broadcasting system, the services it provides against the back drop of public needs and look into the future of public broadcasting in South Africa, with a focus on content development and provision". The Minister indicated that the year to come will:

- see the development of a policy framework for convergence which will lead to new services,

- deliver indigenous languages to regional broadcasting,

- develop more local content
