Women Shaping the Future of Broadcasting: Ruth Castle

Ruth Castle’s journey into media was defined by her deep passion for biking and her self-described nature as a “people’s person”. Having personally survived a horrific motorcycle crash, Castle entered the media landscape through the Biker Show on Bush Radio, initially curating content for the bike safety feature before serving as the show’s music compiler.

Her unique talent for talking to people and sharing her love for bikes allowed her to quickly assume greater responsibility, leading to her 10-year tenure as the show’s producer.  She views this media role as the “perfect platform” to demonstrate her worth as a woman and to actively promote various biker-related charities. 

She also uses her position to inspire other young women to “go out and do your thing”, encouraging them to explore their own unique talents and abilities within the sector. While her personal history of loss and survival makes her highly relatable and receptive to others in the biking community, she focuses on leveraging her platform for shared passion for biking and to provide visibility for various community charities.

Beyond organised charity work, she serves as an inspirational figure for young women, encouraging them to explore their talents and demonstrate their worth in their chosen fields. She believes that women are capable of achieving great things if they “reach within” themselves to explore their unique skills, such as her own talent for connecting with people.

Ruth provides a unique form of support through her relatability and empathy. While she explicitly states that she does not offer formal counselling, she notes that people, particularly those who have experienced loss, find her easy to talk to and very receptive. By sharing her own passion and personal journey, she creates a space where others feel comfortable reaching out, thereby fostering a supportive and connected network within the biking community.

“Media is a great opportunity for other young ladies who want to go in the same direction to basically just go out there and do your thing … to show your worth as a woman. I think I’ve proved myself. You are capable if you just reach within yourself and explore whatever talents you have.”
