SABRE 2

The NAB noted that although many aspects of the SABRE 2 bandplan appeared to duplicate Telkom’s submission on the original SABRE document, many of the NAB’s previous concerns had been addressed

PSTS Fees and Charges

The NAB supported three recommendations made by Sentech on PSTS fees and charges

IMT 2000

The NAB represents various interested parties and stakeholders operating in the band 2.5 – 2.7GHz, which is extensively used for “services ancillary to broadcasting”. The NAB notes that services in this band include broadcast contribution, manpack cameras, remote outside broadcast links and multi point multi channel (point to multipoint) distribution systems (MMDS).

Labour Relations Act (LRA) amendments

The NAB made a submission on the proposed amendments to the LRA which would affect broadcasters’ use of contract workers.

Needletime - 2000

The NAB made a submission on the proposed amendments to the Copyright Act and the Performers Protection Act which would amount to the introduction of ‘needletime’ – a levy payable by broadcasters to performers and producers of music

Satellite Broadcasting

On 4 May 1999 the Independent Broadcasting Authority (the Authority) released a Discussion Paper on Satellite Broadcasting (the Discussion Paper) to solicit input from the role players in the broadcasting industry and the public at large on how satellite broadcasting should be regulated
